Jean François RAUZIER
  • biography
French artist, born in 1957. Lives and works in Paris.

Out of the box designer of a postmodern dreamlike world, Jean-François Rauzier wonders about the future of our cultural heritage. With his imaginary architectures, he questions our perceptions of the world and the main themes in our society as : culture, science, progress, oppression, ecology, utopia, liberty…
Famed with his imaginary architectures and for his many cultural and popular references in these art works, he transforms the urban vestiges in veritable utopia. He imagines furturists cities and our place in the modern world, accross different construction plans. Called a « magician of reality » by curator and art critic Damien Sausset, and included among the ‘digital baroque » artists by Regis Cotentin, as a virtuoso of digital technologies he receives the recognition of his peers and exposes in diverse internationals institutions such a The Los Angeles Foundation Annenberg, Moscow’s MOMA, the Palais des Beaux-Arts of Lille, Cultural Institute Botanique of Brussels and his artworks are in many private collections (Louis Vuitton Collections, Bernard Magrez Collections, Versailles city…).

In 2002, he created the « Hyperphoto », a concept which enables him to deal with the impossible: to combine both infinitely big and infinitely small things in one same image, out of time. To stimulate the illusion of reality, Jean-François Rauzier first had to cope with all the inherent limits inherent of the photographic and technological equipment. He found his way by juxtaposing, duplicating, twisting images, making it possible for him to reproduce human vision more accurately. This way, he generated a genuine numerical puzzle, in which the pieces, cut out, “drawn again”, come up along on top of the imagination of the artist.

The multitude of images invite the spectators to an inside journey, in dream-like, fantastic and timeless worlds. These worlds are filled with icons and references born of the artist’s cultural hall of fame.
