Between the names Dufilho and Bugatti, there exists an almost tangible connection, woven through the passion of several generations.
It all began with Jacques, Antoine’s great-uncle, a passionate Bugatti collector. This fascination was passed on to his nephew and, quite naturally, to Antoine himself.
A graduate of the Lille School of Architecture and Landscape, Antoine Dufilho designed and built his own studio in the countryside near Lille using maritime containers. It is there that all his works take shape.
His work explores the alternation of solid and void, evoking a skeletal structure that decomposes forms into successive layers. This approach creates a kinetic vision of static objects: movement emerges through the viewer’s gaze and their movement around the piece. The interplay of symmetry and asymmetry further enhances this sensation of acceleration and deceleration.
As a child, Antoine Dufilho was introduced to the visual arts by his great-uncle, an actor, painter, and sculptor. Later, medical studies allowed him to explore the complexity of human biomechanics, before architecture led him toward a new approach to sculpture focused on structure and framework.
Self-taught in his artistic practice, he experimented with techniques such as molding and welding to gradually build the aesthetic language that defines his work. He has been fully dedicated to his artistic practice since 2012.
Inspired by automobiles, architecture, and the mechanics of movement, Antoine Dufilho now develops research that moves beyond figuration. His recent creations move toward abstraction, exploring lightness, balance, and the illusion of movement, sometimes revealing, through shifting perspectives, the fleeting structure of a cube animated by metallic needles.
