Biography
Born in 1976 in Oran, Mihoub is a French artist of Algerian origin. In 2001, he left for San Francisco in search of new adventures, inspired by The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
While wandering through the downtown streets, he discovered numerous art galleries, as well as the postwar Surrealist and Abstract Expressionist movements.
Following in the footsteps of André Breton, writer and founder of the Surrealist movement, Mihoub lets himself be guided by instinct:
“When I create, I let the energy flow through me, and as it unfolds, I see shapes emerge. A composition, to me, is like a dance — a ballet.”
He draws inspiration from artists such as Pollock and Dubuffet, both advocates of raw and spontaneous creation. He is also influenced by the New York Street Art scene of the 1980s — Rammellzee for his “mystical and spiritual” side, A-One for his “urban expressionism,” and Basquiat for his “rage to paint.”
In 2014, Mihoub settled in Marseille, became an ambassador for the color manufacturer Pébéo, and gained international recognition with more than fifty Live Paintings to his credit.
His artistic approach:
“Our mind is the last space of freedom that we can choose to ignore or to explore.”
